2009-2010 Sample Kindergarten Schedule
ELCM accepts 24 students into its full-day Kindergarten program which runs from 8:30 am until 2:00 pm each day with Extended Day options available for working parents. With two certified teachers, with Highly Qualified Teaching Status (HQT) as well as one assistant, our student-teacher ratio is 8:1. (NH State ratio is 15:1) Our teaching methods encourage the development of the whole child: physical, social, emotional and cognitive. Our program lays the foundation for successful academic and social growth in 1st grade and beyond. Our goal in the classroom is for children to feel happy, motivated, and invested in the learning process. We incorporate many aspects of the Responsive Classroom philosophy in order to build community and give each child a sense of belonging.
Our classroom themes, learning centers, and materials are chosen to provide a balance of small group, large group, and individual activities. Children use literacy, math and science skills in meaningful projects using a variety of materials. We foster and maintain strong teacher-parent partnerships throughout the year and communicate student’s individual progress on a regular basis. Our fun, hands-on activities involve the child in the learning process and are structured so that a child will feel successful at his or her own individual level.
